Have you woken up thinking, "Today I’m changing my life! I’ll start by making one of those ‘green smoothies’, and I’ll 'make it from scratch," only to take that first sip and realise it tastes nothing like the ones they serve at cafes?
Hey, we understand how you feel, and that’s why we (Jo & Geoff) developed Coconut Greens - because eating healthy should be easy and taste delicious too!
Coconut Greens came to life while Geoff was training for his second Ironman triathlon.
Geoff was training three times a day. He was swimming in the morning, going for a run and a bike ride while working full time and juggling a family. He eventually found himself hospitalised with exhaustion and a chronic ear infection.
So Jo started making wholefood smoothies from scratch with coconut water, blanching kale, chopping up broccoli, spinach and they tasted lumpy and bitter. Plus, they were really expensive and time-consuming to make and often ingredients would spoil in the fridge.
While Geoff was training hard for the gruelling event, he was fussy when it came to eating veggies and smoothies, and he was definitely not getting enough vegetables to aid recovery and prevent illness during the Melbourne winters.
We looked at what was out there in the market in powdered form and ended up filling our pantry full of different tubs of kale, beetroot, broccoli and also still buying coconut water, but we thought there’s gotta be an easier way.
With our backgrounds in oncology pharmaceuticals and microbiology, we put our heads together and came up with a quick and easy delicious tasting green smoothie formulation and Coconut Greens became a reality.
Coconut Greens is the first to combine coconut water powder with nine organic super greens. It's organic, vegan, gluten-free, dairy-free and fodmap friendly.
The label looks more like a farmers market shopping list than a supplement fact sheet. Just one scoop of coconut greens is the equivalent of eating 8 to 10 serves of vegetables.
The coconut water powder helps to replace electrolytes and potassium while you're working out, so you stay hydrated. Spirulina and chlorella are simple, ancient microalgae’s and help to detox and oxygenates your blood flow; they're vegetable protein and are easy to digest. The apple also aids digestion and gives some natural sweetness as well as being suitable for gut health.
The formulation is full of micronutrients such as magnesium, iron, potassium vitamins B, vitamin C and vitamin K to help promote healthy gut flora so that you’re able to absorb the micronutrients out of your diet and keep you regular.
Then you have all your iron shots - wheatgrass, barley grass and alfalfa - to boost energy levels. You also have all your B group vitamins in broccoli, spinach and kale.
Coconut Greens is great for the whole family and can be used all year round. Add it to your kid's favourite fruit smoothie, in with your protein powder, sprinkle it on yoghurt or porridge, make a green latte, or create supercharging smoothie bowls.
With his nutrition nailed thanks to Coconut Greens, Geoff went on to complete not only his second but also his third Ironman Triathlon!
We've now developed a free 26-page recipe e-book for inspiration which is available from our website, coconutgreens.com.
We love collaborating with Australian and Melbourne-based companies that are passionate about health and wellness. We personally use Salt Lab magnesium oil spray after a workout and just before going to bed. We call it our 'liquid gold' in aiding sleep, reducing our stress levels and alleviating cramps after being on our feet all day.
