10 Questions with Michelle from Not Stationary

10 Questions with Michelle from Not Stationary

1. What inspired you to start Not Stationary and focus on mindful productivity?

Not Stationary started from my own need to create more space for what mattered most, while still showing up at a high level. I was managing two businesses, raising our family, and coaching others through their own growth. From the outside, it looked like I had it handled. But on the inside? I was stretched. And while I could keep up with being “busy,” I didn’t feel deeply connected to what actually mattered.

I wanted more than just to tick off tasks. I wanted to feel grounded in my purpose, clear in my direction, and aligned with my values. I needed a system that supported high performance and my wellbeing.

That’s how Not Stationary was born, a shared moment on a road trip between my husband (Marty) and me. We were both searching for a Planner that combined structure with soul. A tool that helped us stay focused on our goals and connected to ourselves.

We couldn’t find one, so we created it!

Not Stationary is our way of bringing intention back into everyday life. It’s a tool to help you manage your life and shape your identity. It’s to help us shift from rushed and reactive, to calm, clear, and intentional.

And the name? It’s a play on words. Yes, we make stationery. But Not Stationary is more than that- it’s about movement. Growth. Evolution. And that starts in the small, daily choices we make to live with purpose, presence, and rhythm.

2. Why are daily rituals so important for wellness?

Rituals are how I come back to myself, especially when life gets busy. They create a kind of rhythm in the chaos. They remind my body and brain that I’m safe, supported, and still in control even when everything feels full-on.

In our Daily Practices program, we always say the smallest actions create the biggest changes. And it’s true. Something as simple as journaling for two minutes can light up your prefrontal cortex, the part of your brain that helps with decision-making and emotional regulation. So, writing things down is more than getting thoughts out, it tells your brain, I’m here, I’m focused and these matters.

For me, it might be magnesium before bed or just drinking water before I reach for coffee. These things sound small, but they’re like little cues that say, I’m choosing to be intentional today, not just reacting to everything coming at me.

And over time? Those small acts really add up. They don’t just change how the day feels, they literally change how you feel in it. And that’s where the real shift starts.

3. How does Not Stationary support people in creating intentional space for wellbeing?

A lot of us have been taught that performance and wellbeing sit on opposite ends of the spectrum, like you have to choose between being productive or being present. But we don’t see it that way. At Not Stationary, we believe they actually fuel each other.

When you're grounded in your values, clear on your direction, and aligned with your energy performance becomes easier. It’s more focused, more sustainable. And when you feel in flow and on purpose, looking after your wellbeing isn’t something you have to squeeze in, it becomes something you want to protect.

That’s the gap our system is designed to bridge.

The daily written prompts in our planners aren’t just there to help organise your thoughts, they help regulate your nervous system. Writing by hand is a mindfulness tool. It slows your thinking, brings you into the present, and helps shift your state from scattered to centred.

We ask simple but powerful questions: What’s my intention? Where’s my focus? What am I grateful for? Over time, those small reflections start to rewire your patterns. They act like micro-resets throughout your day.

Not Stationary is built on coaching psychology, behavioural science, and NLP frameworks. There’s structure, but it’s not rigid. It’s about building rhythm and momentum — without burning out along the way.

4. For beginners, what’s the first step in creating mindful rituals?

Start small — and start with you. Mindful rituals aren’t about adding more to your plate; they’re about shifting how you experience the moments you’re already in.

Choose one part of your day — morning, evening, or somewhere in between — and ask: How do I want to feel here? Who do I want to be in this moment?

It could be something simple, like writing down one word in your planner to set the tone for your day. That single word can signal clarity, shift your state, and create calm. Or maybe it’s three deep breaths before you open your laptop, putting your phone down while you sip your coffee, or spraying magnesium before bed.

These may seem small but neurologically, they’re powerful. Each one tells your brain: I’m in control. I’m here. I’m safe.

Don’t wait for the perfect routine to show up, because it won’t. The ritual is the reset. And it starts with one small, intentional choice.

5. What’s your approach to building lasting habits? How can our community start?

Simplicity and consistency over intensity. We teach habit stacking, emotional anchors, and clarity on why you’re building the habit in the first place. If the habit doesn’t connect to your values or identity, it won’t stick. For your community, I’d say: choose one ritual that supports your sleep or stress levels and do it daily, even if it’s only 2 minutes. The win is in showing up.

6. What makes the 21-Day Ritual Reset tracker different from other wellness tools?

We’ve experienced and seen how powerful small daily practices can be. Our community has used the 21-Day Daily Practices Program to build habits that truly stick and support their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

But with this Ritual Reset, we wanted to go even deeper and more specific.

This version focuses on one of the most essential (and often overlooked) pillars of high performance: sleep. Because without quality rest, no amount of intention, effort, or action will fully land. Sleep is the foundation. And when that’s strong, everything else becomes easier to build.

What makes this tracker different is that it doesn’t overwhelm or overcomplicate. It’s not about flipping your life upside down, it’s about anchoring into the smallest, most impactful rituals. The ones that calm your nervous system, regulate your energy, and help you show up with more consistency and ease.

We’ve paired Salt Lab’s science-backed magnesium products (which have honestly been game changers for us!) with our proven mindset and behavioural tools. You’re creating real shifts in how you feel, think, and move through your day.

7. What was your process when doing the 21-Day Ritual Reset tracker? Did you discover anything new along the way?

Yes! Even though I created it, doing the 21-day reset myself was a powerful reminder of just how much impact comes from the intention behind the ritual.

I already had most of the pieces in place, magnesium at night, screen-free wind-down, journaling and movement. But this time, I paid closer attention to my evening ritual.

I noticed that when I did at night mattered even more than how I started my day! My sleep felt deeper, less brain fog, my mood held steadier, and I was stronger in the gym!

Sometimes we think we need a new strategy, when all we really need is a deeper connection to the one we already have.

8. What impact do you hope this challenge will have on the Salt Lab community?

My hope is that this reminds people they’re not broken or falling behind just because they’re tired.

Rest isn’t weakness, it’s wisdom. It’s a signal from the body that it’s time to reconnect, reset, and rebuild from a more grounded place.

I hope this 21-day journey feels like a big breath out — a moment to come back into rhythm with yourself. To realise that change is possible, and it doesn’t have to be all at once.

Small steps. Consistent cues. That’s what creates momentum.

If this helps someone feel even a little more confident in their ability to listen to their body, protect their peace, and honour what they need, then that’s the real win.

9. What kind of shifts can people expect after the 21 days — and how can they keep the momentum going?

I’ve already mentioned the obvious benefits—better sleep, a clearer mind, more stable mood, and less brain fog. But one of the biggest shifts? A deeper sense of self-trust.

When you consistently follow through on the small promises you make to yourself, something powerful happens. You start to believe yourself again. That builds confidence, not the loud, performative kind, but the quiet, grounded kind that says, “I’ve got this.”

Writing things down and tracking your rituals creates a visible pattern of who you’re becoming. You’re no longer guessing what works; you’re learning from your own data.

You’ll start to notice the ripple effect, like how magnesium helps you unwind, how journaling clears your mind, how even two minutes of breathwork recalibrates your nervous system. You’ll see patterns emerge in your mood, your energy, your decisions, your sleep. You’ll feel more in rhythm with yourself.

You’ll also reduce decision fatigue. When your rituals are built in, you don’t waste energy deciding what to do next, you just do the thing that supports you!

To keep the momentum going, choose 2–3 rituals that felt natural and grounding. The ones that made you feel more like yourself. Anchor them into your environment and let them become part of who you are.

And above all, remember: it’s not about perfection. It’s about presence. It’s about progress. It’s about choosing to return to yourself, again and again—no matter what’s going on around you.

10. How do you stay consistent with rituals when life gets busy?

Great question! My rituals matter most when life feels full. When I start to feel overwhelmed or stretched, that’s my cue. A signal to come back to what grounds me.

That feeling of being unsettled or scattered used to throw me off course. Now, it’s the reminder I need to reset. That’s when I lean into the practices that help me feel steady -magnesium before bed, a few deep breaths between tasks, a journalling to clear my head, getting up and moving or simply setting an intention before the next task.

It’s not about having a perfect routine — it’s about having a system I trust. That’s how I stay consistent: I’ve built my rituals into my identity and my environment. My planner sits open on the kitchen bench. My magnesium is beside my bed and in my gym bag. My breathwork reminders are built into transitions in my day.

These things happen by design.

And the more I return to them, the more automatic they become. That’s the secret. Rituals don’t remove the chaos, they help me move through it with more calm, clarity, and control.

And that’s what consistency really is: not perfection, but repetition. Returning to yourself, again and again.
